Reason to Believe

Sickness and death among God’s people are never the End.

Even if faced with death, Jesus can raise us from the dead if it is not God’s time for us to meet Him.

There was a family who had a genuine and strong devotion to Jesus, and Jesus loved them.  Nevertheless, they experienced sorrow, sickness and death.

Troubles may come our way but they are only Temporary.

We may be like Mary persevering in loving devotion to the Lord, and Martha faithful in good deeds.

Yet their brother, Lazarus suffered and died.  Families like these often cry out “How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?” (Psalm 13:1).

Delay is not always Denial.

“Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. Yet when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days.” (John 11:5, 6)

The reason for the delay is to strengthen the faith of that family and the disciples.  Yet Jesus’ actions appeared to indicate that he was unconcerned by their suffering.

Believe what Jesus says and expect a Miracle.

Often we go our own way when we are in troubles, and may not have the desire to pray or the faith to believe.  May we learn and understand God’s timing and purpose in the midst of our trials.

Jesus said to Martha, “Your brother will rise again” (John 11:23).

“I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25)

Look to Jesus and receive your Miracle.

Jesus did one of the surest signs that God is at work in our lives by raising Lazarus from the dead.

Martha was worried about the smell when Jesus ordered that the stone covering Lazarus’ tomb be removed (John 11:38, 39).  He had been dead for four days. But Jesus challenged her and said, “Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God” (v.40).

After praying, Jesus called out in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”  The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.” (John 11:41-44)

Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life.

Dr. Crandall had a similar experience with his patient.  The Holy Spirit prompted the cardiologist to return to the clinically dead patient, and gave him a second chance through resuscitation.  The patient was revived against all odds.
